I’ve spent the last three years investigating the history and energy of the saxophone and drum duo, and with "Metal and Wood" (a month-long recording residency at Wicker Park's Bordel), I will explore the possibilities of this instrumental pairing with four of Chicago's most prominent improvising drummers: Mike Reed, Dana Hall, Charles Rumback, and Quin Kirchner. Each performance will be recorded live with the intention of releasing a compilation album that features not only these four drummers, but also others in Chicago, New Orleans, and Florida.

Night two features Charles Rumback who is a colleague and friend that is one of the few drummers in Chicago that is a dedicated follower of the aesthetic path of the great Paul Motian.
